Embroidery order software, answered.
What ThreadReady is, how an order moves from the counter to the machine file, what it costs, and what it runs on. Each answer stands on its own; the links go deeper.
Choosing ThreadReady
What it is, who it is for, and where it fits next to the tools you already use.
What is ThreadReady?
ThreadReady is embroidery order software for shops that personalize. Customers design on a tablet at the counter, approve a preview drawn from the real stitches, and pay at the register. The shop gets a production-ready order and the machine file.
Everything the Kiosk doesWho is ThreadReady for?
Independent embroidery shops taking walk-in names, monograms, team orders and small custom jobs at a counter. It runs the order around the designs your shop already makes; it is not a digitizing service.
See the counter workflowHow is this different from a spreadsheet or a generic order form?
A form captures text. ThreadReady draws the stitch preview from the same data as the machine file, checks that the design can be sewn, prices it as the customer designs, and hands over the receipt QR and the machine file. Nothing is re-keyed by hand.
How an order movesIs ThreadReady a digitizing program?
No. The Kiosk uses the designs you build in ThreadReady or start from the sample designs. ThreadReady Studio, a full digitizing editor with fills, satins and underlay, is a separate product still in development.
About ThreadReady StudioDoes ThreadReady only work for in-store orders?
The Kiosk is built for the counter, but customers can start a design at home on their phone and finish it at the shop with a short code or QR code. Personalization for an online store is ThreadReady Commerce, which is coming soon.
About ThreadReady CommerceTaking an order
The counter-to-machine handoff, in the order it happens.
How does an order move through ThreadReady?
The customer picks a design, types the text, chooses a font and thread, checks the live stitch preview and the total, and approves. They pay at your register and get an order number and QR code. Staff scan the code to open the order, mark it paid, download the machine file in the shop’s format, and move it through production, pickup and collected.
The handoff in detailDo customers need an account or an app?
No. They walk up to the welcome screen and start. There is nothing to install and nothing to sign in to.
Kiosk questionsCan a customer start a design at home?
Yes. They design and save on their own phone or computer, then finish at the shop with a short code or QR code. Saved designs last 7 days. Orders are normally placed on a paired tablet in the shop because they are paid at your register.
Saved designsHow do customers pay?
At your own register, with your own point of sale. ThreadReady does not take payments. Staff scan the receipt QR code to open the order and can mark it paid in the same scan.
Products and pricingWhat proof does the customer get?
The kiosk offers to email the receipt, which includes the approved design and a link to it. The QR code on the receipt opens the same proof on the customer’s phone. If staff change an order after approval, the customer approves the change before it goes to production unless you turn that off.
Receipts and proofsCan I run more than one kiosk?
Yes. Pair each tablet with its own code and name. Each one can print or not, shows Online or Offline, and can be revoked on its own.
Kiosk setupWhat happens if the page refreshes or a customer walks away?
A refresh brings the design back on the step they were on, and their contact details are never stored on the tablet. After the idle time you set (4 minutes unless you change it), the kiosk clears itself for the next customer.
Kiosk questionsFiles, fonts and hardware
What it exports, what it runs on, and what you need at the counter.
Which machine file formats does ThreadReady export?
DST, PES, EXP and JEF. DST is the default unless you choose another. You can download one order’s file, or a batch of orders as one ZIP.
Machine filesWhich embroidery machines does it work with?
Any machine that reads DST, PES, EXP or JEF. The preview customers approve is drawn from the same stitch data as the file you download.
Kiosk questionsWhat hardware do I need?
A tablet or computer with a current web browser, on a stand at your counter. To scan receipts, use a USB or Bluetooth QR scanner, or the camera of a phone or tablet. A receipt printer is optional; receipts are emailed by default.
Hardware notesCan I use my own embroidery fonts?
Yes. Upload your BX font files, group their sizes into families, and publish the ones the kiosk should offer. Monograms, arcs and multi-line text are built in.
FontsCan customers pick any thread color?
They pick from the thread catalogue and palettes you set up, so they only choose threads you stock. You can also lock a design field to one thread.
Thread managementCan I use my own designs?
Yes. Build designs in the visual editor or start from the sample designs, then choose the fields customers fill in, the fonts and threads they can pick, and which designs the kiosk shows.
Creating designsPricing and plans
What it costs, what is included, and what happens if you stop.
How much does ThreadReady cost?
The Kiosk is $100/month with everything included: unlimited orders and staff, the live stitch preview, your fonts and threads, receipt scanning, machine files, and the API. The trial is 14 days free, with no card required.
See pricingIs there a contract? Can I cancel?
Billing is monthly, with no long-term commitment. Cancel whenever you like from Settings → Billing; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
Pricing and plansWhat happens if my subscription lapses?
The kiosk stops taking new orders, but your team can still finish the orders already placed: scan them, change statuses and download files. If the workspace stays unpaid, its orders, designs and settings are kept for 90 days, with an email at 30 and 75 days, and then deleted.
If billing lapsesAre Commerce, AI and Studio available?
Not yet. Commerce adds personalization to an online store (Shopify first, then WooCommerce), AI digitizes a customer’s logo in the shop, and Studio is a full digitizing editor. Each has a waitlist. Commerce and AI will be priced separately; Studio’s pricing is not set.
