The Design Library

Upload stitch files for customers to put lettering around, previews, draft and published art, design families, AI tagging and layout presets.

Overview

The design library holds your stock embroidery art: stitch files such as a crest, a paw print or a monogram frame. Customers pick library art on the kiosk and add their lettering to it, and you can put library art behind the lettering of your own designs. Find it under Designs → Design Library.

A new shop starts with a set of sample designs; see Sample Designs to keep or remove them.

Only owners and admins can upload or change library art. Members and viewers see it read-only.

Uploading stitch files

  1. Go to Designs → Design Library and click Upload stitch files under Stitch Assets.
  2. Choose one or more stitch files: DST, PES, EXP, JEF, VP3, PEC, HUS, SEW, XXX, DSZ, TAP, EMB or a ThreadReady JSON file, up to 10 MB each. Each one is added to a list where you can name it.
  3. Click Upload (it says how many, for example Upload 2 designs).

Uploads finish as soon as the file is saved. The stitch preview, size and stitch count are made in the background: the card shows Generating preview… for a few seconds and updates on its own. A large file, such as a 100,000-stitch jacket back, takes a second or two more. If a file can't be read (for example, a corrupt or mislabelled file), the card shows Preview failed with the reason; upload a corrected file from the asset's page to try again. A preview image you upload yourself is never replaced.

The kiosk only shows library art that has a preview, so customers never see a blank tile. Until its preview is ready, the card says Generating preview…, Preview failed (with the reason) or Preview not generated. Published art without a preview is also marked Not on the kiosk yet: the kiosk offers it once its preview is made, or once you upload a preview image on its page.

Finding a design

The library shows 48 designs a page, by name, with Previous and Next below. Search designs finds a design by name or description across the whole library, and the status menu shows only Published or Draft designs. When you build a design family, the list of designs has a Filter by name box once your library has more than 12.

On the kiosk, customers see your published library art 24 at a time, with Show more designs under the list to load the next 24 (see Browsing designs).

Each stitch file

Open a stitch file to change its Name, Description and Status, replace the stitch file or the preview image, or delete it.

  • Draft — New uploads start as drafts. The kiosk doesn't offer them.
  • Published — The kiosk offers it to customers, and the Library design + 1 line and + 2 lines starting points in New design can use it.

A stitch file that a design uses as its Stitch Asset can't be deleted: remove it from those designs first (the message names them). Saved designs and orders keep their own copy of the art.

To limit which art a product offers, tick it under Library art on the product (see Products & Pricing).

Design families

Design Families group related stitch files, such as the same logo in several sizes, to keep the library tidy. When files have similar names, the page suggests a family you can create in one click. Customers don't see families.

AI tagging

When AI features are available for your account, Settings → General has an AI design tagging switch (owners and admins, Pro plan, off by default). With it on, ThreadReady suggests tags for the stitch files you upload, so they are easier to find. Without it, the card isn't shown.

Layout presets

When a customer picks library art on the kiosk, they can choose how their lettering sits around it from five built-in layouts: Design only, Text below, Text above, Text right and Text left. Designs → Layouts shows them. Turn off Show default layout presets on kiosk if you want customers to skip that choice. Your own designs don't use these presets: their layout is set in the design editor.
