Sample Designs

The sample library a new shop starts with: what samples are, keeping one you have sewn, and removing the rest (in-use samples are hidden, not deleted).

Overview

A new shop starts with a library of sample designs: 33 gift motifs (anchor, bee, heart, paw print and so on), each in its own design family. They are there so you can try the whole flow straight away — lay out a template, put it on a product, place a test order on the kiosk — before you have uploaded your own art.

Samples are placeholders. They were generated, not digitized by hand, and none has been stitched out. Sew one before you sell it.

While your shop is set up

After you click the link in your verification email, a Setting up your shop window lists what is happening: verifying your email and creating your shop, then adding the sample designs (with a count, such as 12 of 33), then opening your dashboard. It takes up to a minute. The samples are added on our side, so if you close the page they still arrive; if they stop arriving, ThreadReady tries once more, then opens your dashboard anyway — your shop works without them.

Finding samples

On Designs → Library, a yellow notice says how many sample designs are in the library, and each sample's card has a sample badge. Samples are published (one, the stand mixer, starts as a draft), so the kiosk offers them like any other library art until you keep or remove them.

Keep a sample

Sew the design. If you are happy with it, click Keep next to its name in the notice. It becomes an ordinary design: the sample badge and the warning in its description go, and nothing else about it changes. Owners and admins can keep samples.

Remove the samples

Click Remove all samples to clear them out before you sell. Only samples are affected: your own uploads, and samples you kept, stay.

  • A sample nothing uses is deleted, with its file and its design family.
  • A sample that a template or product uses is hidden instead: it is unpublished, so customers no longer see it, but it is not deleted. Templates built on it are archived, and they keep their art, so past orders, saved designs and a restored template still have it. A product's list of allowed art is not changed (an empty list would mean all library art). The notice marks these samples in use.

To delete a hidden sample, take it off its templates and products first, then click Remove all samples again, or delete it from the library.

Once you have kept or removed any sample, the sample library is never added to your shop again.

History

Every keep, hide and removal is recorded with who did it and when, and the record keeps the design's name after the design is gone.
