Paperless receipts: how customers get theirs

The default: the order number, the total and a QR code on screen, Email me my receipt, and finding the order at the register.

Overview

ThreadReady is paperless by default: a new shop needs no receipt printer. After a customer places an order on the kiosk, the order screen gives them everything a paper receipt would, and they pay at the register as usual.

The order screen shows:

  • the order number,
  • the total to pay at the register,
  • a QR code. It is the customer's proof link: their phone's camera opens their approved design, and staff scan the same code at the register to find the order,
  • Email me my receipt, and Text me my receipt where texts are on.

Email me my receipt

The customer taps Email me my receipt. The email address they typed under Your details is already filled in, so most customers just tap Send receipt. They can change it, or type one if they left it blank.

The receipt email has:

  • your shop name and the order number,
  • the total to pay at the register,
  • a picture of the design and what we'll stitch (each line's text, with per-letter threads and letters moved by hand), the item and the thread,
  • the receipt QR code, to show at the register,
  • a View your approved design button and link.

It is the same email as the proof: a customer gets one email, not two. If their email app blocks pictures, the link still shows the design.

Turn it on or off: Let customers email their receipt in Settings → Kiosk (on by default). It needs email sending set up for your account; until it is, the setting says so and the button isn't shown.

Limits: each email address gets at most three receipts an hour, each order can be sent at most five times an hour, and a paired tablet can send up to 300 an hour. If a send is refused or fails, the screen says so and suggests scanning the QR code instead. Every send (and every refusal) is listed in the order's Audit trail.

Text me my receipt

Where SMS is turned on for your account and Let customers text their receipt is on, the customer can have a text with the order number, the total and a link to their receipt instead. The phone number must include its area code. Texts end with "Reply STOP to opt out." SMS is off for every shop until it is turned on for your account; until then only email and the QR code are offered.

Customers who give no contact details

A customer who gives no email or phone still has the QR code and the order number on screen. They scan the QR code with their phone to keep the receipt, or just tell staff their order number or name at the register.

Privacy

The email or phone filled in is only what the customer typed on this order. A tablet never fills in contact details saved with an earlier design, and if the page is refreshed the receipt screen comes back with the field empty. The receipt screen clears itself after a short time, so the next customer never sees it.

At the register

Staff find the order any of these ways (all open the same order):

  • Scan the customer's phone. On any staff page (or from the Scan button), scan the QR code on the customer's phone, from the receipt email or from the page they opened by scanning the kiosk.
  • Search the order queue by order number or the customer's name.

Mark it paid from the order, or choose Mark paid under After scanning to do it as you scan.

In the demo

The demo never sends email or texts. Email me my receipt shows on screen what would have been sent, and to whom.

Prefer paper?

Turn on receipt printing in Settings → Kiosk → Printing. See Printing receipts and labels.
